Characteristics of the Terrain
Hilly Area
Most of the wards of the panchayat have hilly areas. The important hilly areas are the ancient Vedagiri Hills, Naalpathi Hills, Kalampu Kattumala, Kariveli Hills and the Kattathi area.
Coconut, rubber, kappa, and banana are the main crops cultivated. The area of about 7 sq. km. is hilly.
Plain Area
Fertile soil consisting of red rock and gravel is found in the plain areas.
Since the area is full of streams and springs, rice, bananas, ginger, coconuts, and vegetables are cultivated in abundance.
Swamp Area
90 percent of the marshy areas in the panchayat are located in the western region.
The trend of filling up swamps with soil and turning them into dry land is affecting the natural balance. Paddy and coconut are being cultivated more and more..
Water Resources
Main Water Sources
Water bodies like Vedagiri Kulam, Manakkakulam and Churakkulangara indicate the water abundance of the panchayat.
Availability of Drinking Water
Except for the higher areas of the panchayat, there is usually no shortage of drinking water in other areas..
